It is understood that the climax sequence has been shot for eight days and Vikram has acted in the action sequences taking lots of risks.

The film unit member while speaking about this said, "Vikram is donning the role of gym master. So the director wanted the climax scene to be massive. So the climax sequences have been shot in artificial rain. This will be a new experience to the audience.

WHO IS BODHIDHARMA?

What is it about Bodhidharma that got Murugadoss so excited? Listening to him over the many interviews he has given lately to any channels, one can see that he is nothing short of being in complete awe of the personality. But, we have never even heard of such a name, let alone know that he is a figure revered, even worshipped in many parts of the world. Search a bit about Bodhidharma on the web and you will find literally tons of information on this hitherto ‘unknown’ personality. What everyone knows by now is that Bodhidharma was a Pallava prince, some sources say the third Pallava prince, and that he became a Buddhist monk later in life. But, that is previous little information about a man who seems to have laid the foundation of one of the world’s most highly respected martial art forms.
Of course, as you would expect of a person who lived many centuries back, accounts about him and his feats area bit conflicting. But, the conflict is not about whether his accomplishments can be accounted as great. The conflict seems to be about the degree of greatness that can be accorded to him! That in itself says quite a lot about Bodhidharma.

One wonders why Bodhidharma’s legend was lost, at least t South India. Practically everyone here knows at least a little about the four great dynasties of the South, their accomplishments and their great kings. How, then, was this prince of the Pallava dynasty, who went on to attain immortal status in China and neighboring countries, forgotten in the land of his birth? One is lead to speculate whether the sheer unbelievable nature of his accomplishments pushed his legend into the realm of the fable and then subsequently into obscurity. Yes, there are things that are too good to be true, and many of them might be snuffed off as impossible for that same reason. Like Albert Einstein once said about Mahatma Gandhi; ‘generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this walked the earth in flesh and blood’; Bodhidharma and his stature seems to have grown more into fairytale rather than legend and then passed out of the knowledge of generations.

Indeed, some of his feats require a certain suspension of belief to digest. It is said, conflictingly though, that he once meditated in cave continuously for 9 years, continuously staring at the wall opposite him, creating a hole through the solid stone wall just by his stare. Some sources don’t mention the wall, but say that the meditation that he undertook was powerful enough to make the wall of barren stone reflect his image. Now, you might be able to understand the amount of faith needed in the legends to accept the stature of Bodhidharma.

Legend also has it that in order to prevent himself from falling asleep during meditation, he cut off his eyelids and threw them into the ground. It is those eyelids that sprouted as the first ever tea plants. It is also said that Buddhist monks from then on used tea in a reverent manner to keep themselves awake during long periods of meditation. Well, we do not know any of these for fact. But, what we do know is that tea is one of the world’s favorite beverages and it is one of the best stimulants(non-addictive) around. And, we have never heard of any legend about the origin of tea. Of course, one can understand the confusions that arise from the timeline inconsistencies that will arise from studying the lifetime of Bodhidharma as compared to the history of tea.

So also there are doubts that are raised about the credibility of the claims that Bodhidharma was the inventor of Shaolin kung fu and the author of the two classical texts on the subject. But, the question is, would the Shaolin monks be willing to attribute such a magnificent development of their land to someone undeserving, especially when he had arrived in their land from afar. No, they wouldn’t attribute the founding of Shaolin kung fu to someone without reason!

And, to think of it! Shaolin kung fu has been one of the most celebrated martial arts forms all over the world. It has also been the basis for the flourishing of an entire film industry. How many films have we watched based entirely on the Shaolin school and life within it. Little did we know about the man who founded the art that was being taught within it.

The legend of Bodhidharma does not stop here. There are feats that make us even more awed, like the legend of him crossing the Yangze river on a reed. Or the legend of him disappearing after 9 long years of meditation, the only thing that remained in his place were the two classical texts of kungfu. Now, you might understand why perhaps the stories of Bodhidharma might have turned into fables and got lost down the centuries. It takes faith to accept such tales of superhuman accomplishments.

And, there is faith, now in China and Japan, where Bodhidharma is revered as a God; statues erected in his honor, worshipped as the founder of many kung fu techniques. History remembers him in many ways, many of them are spiritual, some of them are accounts of superhuman achievements, and there are also sources that show him as an ill tempered monk, referred to in places as the ‘Blue eyed barbarian’. Whichever way, one thing is clear; he was a man who ought not to have been forgotten in his place of birth.

Now, we get to see a bit of him through a reconstruction of history. Though it will only be a small capsule, as Murugadoss has stated, it will definitely be an unprecedented effort in bringing out a pieceof history that was forgotten. Most period films deal with personalities and incidents that we have read or know about. Seldom is an unknown slice of history brought up on celluloid. 7 Aum Arivu holds that unknown. While the movie might not tell us the whole story, it will introduce us to Bodhidharma. The prince who became a monk.

Vijay's Kaavalan directed by Siddique has been selected for the Shanghai International Film Festival. It is one of the most distinguished film events in Asia. Kaavalan is one among the 200 films that were selected from nearly 2500 entries from all over the world. The 14th edition of this festival will get started on June 11th.
Director Barry Levinson, who won an Academy award for his Rain Man starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise will head the panel of judges. Mudhal Idam hoping for first place

AVM productions is hard at work to bring out the film, Mudhal Idam starring Vidarth and new face, Kavitha Nayar. The film is being directed by R Kumaran. The climax scene was shot in a massive, expensive set that was designed to resemble key areas in Tanjore. Romance duets between the lead pair were shot in Mysore, Hampi, and Chikmangalur.
The talkie portions of the film have been completed. The editing, re - recording, dubbing, and mixing work is going on currently. The rest of the cast includes Ilavarasu, Apukutty, Mayilsamy, Thirumurugan, Namo Narayana, Kalairani, and Manobala.

Velayutham team in Thiruvananthapuram

Velayutham team has moved over to Thiruvananthapuram, where some important scenes are being canned. Director Jayam Raja is filming scenes that involve Vijay here. Soon after the shooting in Thiruvananthapuram is complete, the team will go abroad to shoot a song sequence.
The shooting of Velayutham is expected to be wrapped up very soon and the release date will be fixed upon. It may be mentioned here that the climax scenes have already been shot in Chennai just a few days ago and the scenes being shot in Thiruvananthapuram are a continuation of that.

Salman to grace 'Osthi's sets

It is usual that a hit movie inspires a remake in another film industry and it takes place at the latter, probably with a few minor changes. But with the betterment of technology, more connectivity among stars through networking sites and events that bring together stars from various Indian film industries, the rapport among these stars is improving and they are in constant touch with one another.
One such event that facilitated such a rapport was the Celebrity Cricket League or the CCL, where Silambarasan who is currently working on 'Osthi,' met Salman Khan who is the star of the original, a blockbuster, 'Dabangg.'

'Ko' makes a mark

Looks like there is no stopping to the successful running of 'Ko' all over the world. The K V Anand directed film released by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies has crossed the 50-day mark, and is still making good revenues.
"Ko is a genuine hit and it is the biggest grosser in 2011 so far. All the theatre owners who have released the movie are extremely happy with the revenues," says a trade analyst.
The Jeeva-Karthika starrer is about a photo journalist and how he changes the fate of a State. "Credible and convincing performance from Jeeva, Karthika, Piya and Ajmal among others contributed a lot to the movie's success," he adds.
'Ko' also marks the triumph of a honest and strong script and the credits go to writer-duo Suba. Longtime partners of K V Anand, the popular writers ensured that the script had no big loopholes and it made the viewers glued to their seats.
Another important highlight of 'Ko' is music by Harris Jayaraj. The composer scored big time in songs and background music as well and it had its impact on the audience. "Songs from 'Ko' still top the downloads list," sources say.
All these things, coupled with crystal-clear cinematography by Richard M Nathan, razor-sharp editing by Antony and pulsating stunts by Peter Heins, have made 'Ko' the much celebrated movie of the recent times.

Twin fun in August

It looks like the fans of the 'Ultimate Star' as well as the fans of 'Ilaya Thalapathi' will rule the roost come August.

The reason - well Vijay's superhero project 'Velayudham' is in its final stages of shooting. The team needs to shoot a couple of songs after which the post-production teams will add the final touchups for the film. Anyways the film will be ready for release by the second or third week in August reveal sources close to the filming unit.

Similarly, director Venkat Prabhu is shooting the final sequences of his Ajith starrer 'Mankatha.' After a good dose of post-production work 'Mankatha' will hit theatres during August. The producer of this flick, Dayanidhi Alagiri, has revealed that the music album of 'Mankatha' will hit stands sometime in July as a precursor to the film's release the following month.

The only other time the films of Ajith and Vijay released during the same time was more than three years back where 'Pokiri' and 'Alwar' crossed swords. But now both the stars are on more friendly terms than ever and this is a very positive sign for fans. Instead of fighting as to which of their icons' film was better they can now enjoy seeing both their films!

Whatever it is the theatre owners are sure to have a good time laughing their way to the banks!

KV Anand goes to Tollywood

Few More Days For Mankatha

‘Mankatha’ is rapidly progressing towards completion across the huge sets erected at Hyderabad Film City. The producers initially had plans of releasing the movie by mid of June, but had to postpone due to some circumstances. Venkat Prabhu is taking scrutinizing efforts over the project to ensure that the film comes out well with technical brilliance.

As per the reports closer to Cloud Nine Movies, the film will hit screens by second week of July as Venkat Prabhu and Dayanidhi Maaran are planning to release the film in Telugu as well.

Allu Arjun, one of the top-notch heroes in Tollywood who is awe-struck after watching Bala's 'Avan Iva's Telugu make 'Vaadu Veedu's trailer at the movie's audio launch.

The star is always known for the open praises he doesn't hesitate to make after he watches a Kollywood flick and has many-a-times expressed his wish to work in K-town. He had also earlier expressed his desire to work with some of the leading directors in our industry and now after watching the trailer of the Telugu version of 'Vaadu Veedu,' he is all praises for Bala and become a fan of the latter!

Ajith is awaiting the release of his film ‘Mankatha.’ Directed by Venket Prabhu this film is more special to the ‘Ultimate star’ because this is his 50th film! It looks like ‘Mankatha’ has been wrapped up. The team is busy carrying out the post-production work. Director Venkat Prabhu seems to have zeroed in on bringing the film to Ajith fans in July.

Now it looks like there will a battle between the Ajith and Suriya fans.

On the other side we have the Suriya-Murugadoss-Harris team working on ‘7am Arivu.’ This sci-fi thriller sees Suriya and Sruthi haasan teaming up for the first time. ‘7am Arivu’ too is in its post-production stage. The director has revealed that the special effects and the CG in this film will be on par with that of a Hollywood flick! Murugadoss plans to release this film in July as well.

We also hear that both the films might release on a same date. Wow a double treat for movie-buffs this July? Or will it be a clash between the two handsome and most-wanted heroes of the industry?

K.V.Anand's Kho has beaten the collection record of his earlier flick Ayan. Jeeva has essayed the charecter of a Photo Journalist and Karthika is his pair. Piya, Ajmal have excelled their roles. Wiht Hariss Jayaraj's mesmarising songs and beautifylly narrated story have become huge hit among the audiences.

K V Anand's ‘Ko’ produced has created a stupendous record at the box-office. The movie has completed a 50-day run and has bettered the collections of K V Anand's previous film Ayan. And, it is still going strong.
‘Ko’ starring Jeeva, Karthika, Ajmal, Piya, Prakash Raj and Kotta Srinivasa Rao was about the travails of a photojournalist. The movie had music by Harris Jayaraj and cinematography by Richard M Nathan. The story and screenplay were handled by writers Subha.
The movie opened in a big way with 350 prints and garnered huge collections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and overseas. ‘Ko’ was dubbed in Telugu as ‘Rangam’ and was released in over 150 prints. ‘Rangam’ opened in a big way winning critical reviews besides huge collections.
‘Ko’ has emerged a genuine hit in Tamil Nadu in 2011. The songs have topped the charts besides the artistes winning acclaims for their stellar performance. K V Anand is a happy man today. The movie had few instances from his life based on his earlier days as a photojournalist.

Karthi got engaged to Ranjani yesterday in a simple ceremony that took place at the bride’s residence. Only close family members were present at this function. Siva Kumar, wife Lakshmi, Suriya, his daughter Diya, Karthi’s youngest sister Brindha, her husband Siva Kumar and Karthi were at the bride’s residence in Kumarasamy Goundampalayam to complete the formalities.

Ajith started his acting career with ‘Amaravathi’ and ‘Mankatha,’ that is shortly scheduled for a release, will mark his 50th film in the industry. At this juncture the actor thanks the people who were with him; his co actors, actresses, his directors, technicians, his friends, fans and family who have been there as a source of constant support in this journey of his. But of late, there has been something that has been occupying Ajith’s mind and the actor felt this as the right time to unleash his thoughts to his fans.

Ajith claims that he has never used his fans as a tool for any personal gains nor has he used them as a shield for his likes and dislikes in the industry, and also would never use them for such purposes. The fans have the right to support him if his films do well and criticize him if his films don’t do so well. He has also revealed that he fully understands that people in his fan club as well as the others who don’t belong to his fan club enjoy his films equally, and there is no difference between the two as far as Ajith is concerned. Ajith has also made it very clear, time and again that no one’s family should suffer due to his working for the fan club.

But there are certain unpleasant things that have been happening recently in the fan club. Kamal to act in Traffic’s Remake?

‘Traffic’ was the first ever hit in 2011 in Malayalam. The movie recently celebrated its 111th day and Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan graced the event as the Chief Guest. The event was held at the Gokulam Convention Centre in Ernakulam where Kamal Haasan and director Lal Jose distributed the mementos to the entire crew and artists of the movie.
The movie is a brilliant one and had received great reviews and much critical acclaim from allover! It revolves around the lives of three men who get to know each during a traffic jam. Mollywood audiences are surprised and overjoyed at how Kamal had displayed his enthusiasm in this subject, as 'Traffic' was not just a trendsetter in Mollywood but also a commercial hit.
Speaking on the occasion, the star said that he will be working with the same crew and cast except for Rahman, as Kamal would like to play the character played by Rahman in the original version of the movie. Rahman played the role of ‘Superstar Siddharth’ in the Malayalam movie. The movie will revolve around the journey in transporting a heart of a dying person to somebody who is in need of the heart transplantation in a nearby town.

‘Narthagi’ – Fighting to be heard

Of late the graph of Tamil cinema has taken a new dimension. More films are released which makes the audience sit up and think about various happenings around them. These days, audiences are opening up to accept newer themes belonging to varied genres. There is one more film going to be released shortly, which will be a forerunner for similar films to be released in future. For the first time ever, a film based on the life of a transgender will be released in Tamil.

The film is titled ‘Narthagi’ with Kalki playing the protagonist’s role. The film deals with the struggle a transgender has to face right from childhood through the adolescent years into adulthood and the many obstacles she comes across from the nearest of kin to the society and the outside world in general. It also distinctly portrays the subtle struggles a transgender copes up with like falling in love with someone belonging to the same gender, being ditched by loved ones and their struggle to be heard and respected in the society.

‘Narthagi’ is a film about a transgender who is a bharathanatyam dancer. Though the film is about a dancer it deals with the emotions of a transgender. The director vividly shows the hardships faced by the protagonist right from schooldays, lack of acceptance from the family when they come to know about the sexuality of their child, the problems faced by the protagonist after running away from home and finally accepting life as it is.

The film is directed by Vijay Padma. So will a woman be able to bring out the hardships faced by a transgender precisely?

Since women have a better hand dealing with the emotional quotient when compared to their stronger counterparts, the protagonist’s emotion has been beautifully brought out claims the lead star of the film, Kalki. ‘Narthagi’ passed the censor board’s table recently and was stamped a painful ‘A’. Kalki is quite upset with this ‘A’ but feels that irrespective of the certificate, the film will strike a chord in the minds of the people and give them a feel into the life and feelings of a transgender. Kalki feels that ‘Narthiagi’ will be a first of its kind film in world cinema scenario.

No big changes in ‘Nanban’: Shankar

One has to come to a conclusion that ‘Nanban’ will be a faithful remake of ‘Three Idiots’, going by what Shankar has to say about this pet project of him. “We have not made any big changes to the script,” he says.

“When we were working for Enthiran near Pune, the shooting had to be canceled for some unavoidable reasons. So we watched Three Idiots at a nearby theatre,” says Shankar, recalling how the seed was sown.
He adds: “The script pulled me towards it like a magnet and I was thoroughly impressed watching the movie. Immediately I thought of acquiring the remake rights. Later I myself decided to direct it in Tamil.”
Shankar, who feels that the original script itself was too good, says, “So we didn’t make any big changes, but for some minor alterations. Moreover, there would be a general tendency among the audience to compare both the versions if there are many changes.”

Hansika to romance Vijay again

“To love someone and to be loved by someone is a great feel. This is taking place for centuries now and ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’ will bring to you the story of one such pair,” Jai, who is sharing the screen space with Anjali in this film, says.

”Rahman’s first production venture will be a musical entertainer, and will be a new age cinema. Like how the Oscar-Grammy winner changed the rules in film music, movies produced by him will set a new trend,” they add.

“It was a longtime wish of the music maestro to produce movies, but he was prevented by his busy schedule. He has now finally decided not to delay his decision anymore,” another source said.

7am Arivu follows Endhiran

Language has no barriers, they say. Proving this now is Harris Jayaraj and Madan Karky, who have come out with a song that will have lyrics in more than 10 different languages.
The music composer-lyricist duo is doing this experiement for Vijay-Jiiva-Srikanth starrer 'Nanban', a remake of Bollywood blockbuster 'Three Idiots' and directed by Shankar.
"The song features words from 15 different world languages. Director Shankar and Harris have always encouraged me to experiment with lyrics in their projects. A big thanks to them," says the son of 'Kaviperarasu' Vairamuthu.

On his part, Harris says, "Madan Karky has done a tremendous job by using more than 10 languages in one song. Very interesting and applaudable job indeed." The number is crooned by Vijay Prakash and is said to be one of the highlights of 'Nanban'

Maapillai gearing up for release

The Dhanush starrer, Maapillai is complete and is awaiting release. The film is directed by Suraj with Hansika reprising the role played by Amala and Manisha Koirala playing the domineering mother – in – law with Vivek providing comic relief.
Sun pictures have planned a massive marketing campaign to make sure the film receives sufficient publicity before its release. The movie will be released in April, probably on Tamil New Year and is touted to be one of the biggest releases of the summer.

Shnakar's 'Nanban', the remake of '3 Idiots' is currently shooting the campus scenes in the FRI (Forest Reserve Institute). The FRI looks so much like London. Vijay, Jeeva and Srikanth will sport two different looks in the film.

The actor Srikanth says that "He is glad to work with a wonderful team. He can't stop praising Shankar. Shankar got a serious face but manages to make us laugh. And Vijay and Jeeva is wonderful co-stars".

Vidharth injured in shooting

Mynaa fame Vidharth has been injured on the sets of his next flick 'Mudhal Idam'. The incident took place when the actor is performing a fast dance movement for a song, while he is performing he falling on to the ground and his leg too got fractured.

He was admitted in the hospital and the doctors advised him to take complete rest until the fracture heals. 'Mudhal Idam' was directed by debutant director R.Kumuran and it is produced by AVM studios which the 175th production film.

From time immemorial family films set in rural milieu has worked with Tamil audiences.
The family film formula that seems to be working is showing life and times of a big joint family that splits due various human machinations.
Another sure fire formula is “Amma or Thankachi Pasam” (sister or mother sentiments). Add large doses of sentiments like childhood lovers getting separated
due to some ‘Kata Panchyat’ issues, laced with songs set in the countryside, plus temple festival ‘Thiruvizha’ songs mix it with rural slapstick comedy and local tea shop characters and finally a bloody climax.
Recently films like Mayandi Kudumbathar, Vamsam, Nellu and Thenmeruku Paravakattu falling under ‘family-village’ seems to have worked.
These films are not for Chennai city multiplex audiences and are targeted at single screens in rural areas. They have a faithful ‘family’ audiences and if they are made on a budget between Rs 4 to 5 crore are safe bets.

SRK to share screen with Leonardo Di Caprio

According to sources, Badshah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan and Hollywood handsome star Leonardo Di Caprio will do a movie together. Titled 'Xtrme City', the film is said to be crime-thriller and the story will deal with the criminal underbelly of Mumbai.
The project will be directed by Paul Schrader, the noted writer of Robert De Niro's 1976 hit 'Taxi Driver' and it will be co-produced by the legendary Martin Scorsese.
The script has been co-written by Paul along with Mushtaq Shiekh, the screenwriter of movies ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Ra.One’ and a good friend of Shahrukh. The movie will be mostly shot in Mumbai, to match the story.
Sources had it that the idea for such a deal was born last year when SRK had been in Berlin to promote his ‘My Name Is Khan’ while Leo and Martin came for their film ‘Shutter Island’. Mushtaq and Paul have been working on the script for a year now.
'Xtrme City' will be produced under SRK’s Red Chillies and Scorsese’s banner Sikelia Productions.

We really hope for the best and the project gets finalised as planned….

Cashing in on the popularity of English films dubbed into Tamil, yet another film follows suit. This time, the 2009 horror film Infestation directed by Kyle Rankin is being dubbed to Tamil and is distributed by Sri Raghavendra Film Circuit. Their previous dubbed distribution venture, Apocalypto was a huge success due to the rich, vast filming and visual effects. Infestation is titled Aayiram Poochigal in Tamil and is all set to release on the 4^th of March and the movie is known for its visual effects. Being a story about a bug infesting itself and wrecking havoc in the city, this film is hoping to repeat the success of Jurassic Park and others in the Tamil Nadu box office.

Prabhu Deva's Hindi Movie From August

Prabhu Deva is flying high on cloud nine as his hands are full of offers. Following the huge success of ‘Wanted’, the choreographer-turned-filmmaker is winning more offers from Bollywood and yet he is keen on choosing the best ones. Although Boney Kapoor had plans of signing him for his other movie, he has now joined hands with producer-filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

This film produced under the banner of Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions will feature Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. Since the same duo is busy shooting for its other big budget movie ‘Joker 3D’, the project has been postponed to August.

This time, it’s no more a long term project from Shankar as the producers of Gemini Film Circuit have insisted to wrap up the project on scheduled time. The first schedule was held at Ooty for a shorter while following which the actors in the movie got busy with their other projects. Of course, Vijay had to complete few portions of ‘Velayudham’ while Jeeva went to Mumbai for ‘Vandhan Vendran’.

Now the entire team is getting back together at Dehradun as Jeeva tweeted saying, “will be joinin Director Shankar, Ilayathalapathy, shreekanth, Illena n Sathyaraj sir etc phewwwww gotta travel so much for some big action.”

Meanwhile Shankar and Harris Jayaraj are back from London completing the music composition for remaining songs.

The 83^rd Oscar Awards ceremony, which is hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway, is underway at the Kodak Theater, Los Angeles. Interestingly, the 28-year-old Hathaway happens to be the youngest host at the Oscar ceremony so far.
Two hot favorites that are tipped to sweep the Oscars this year are The King’s Speech and The Social Network. While David Seidler won the Best Original Screenplay award for the former, Aaron Sorkin will take home the Oscar statuette for the Best Adapted Screenplay award for the latter.

Vijay to join Nanban in Dehradun

Ananya goes to Bollywood

Kollywood seems to be the launch pad for Mollywood actresses to reach Bollywood. Close on the heels of Asin, here comes Ananya, who is packing her bags off to the north.
The actress, whose performance in her recent Tamil film ‘Seedan’ has been received well, will share the screen space with Madhavan in a Hindi movie. And she is also learning the language.
Confirming this, Ananya says, “I am happy to act opposite Madhavan. I already know Hindi to a certain extent. But learning it again now to help myself on the sets of the movie.”
Ananya, at the same time, also assures that she would continue doing south Indian films. “I am at present acting in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies. My career has been shaping up good.”
